Cookie Policy

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites work efficiently and to provide information to site owners. Browser local storage works similarly but allows us to store slightly larger amounts of data locally on your device.

2. How MedQ Uses Cookies and Local Storage

MedQ uses only strictly necessary cookies and local storage. We do not use any third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking cookies. You will not see a cookie consent banner on MedQ because we do not use any cookies that require consent under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) — all storage we use is essential for the service to function.

3. What We Store

NameTypePurposeDuration
medq_tokenLocal StorageStores your authentication token (JWT) so you stay logged in between visits. Without this, you would need to log in every time you open MedQ.Until you log out, or 14 days (token expiry)
medq_sidebarLocal StorageRemembers whether you collapsed or expanded the sidebar, so your layout preference is preserved.Until cleared

4. Third-Party Cookies

When you make a payment, you are redirected to Stripe's checkout page. Stripe may set its own cookies on its domain to process your payment securely and prevent fraud. These cookies are governed by Stripe's Cookie Policy, not ours. MedQ does not set any cookies on your device as part of the payment process.

5. No Tracking

MedQ does not use:

  • Google Analytics or any other analytics platform
  • Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, or any advertising tracker
  • Fingerprinting or cross-site tracking of any kind
  • Any cookie or local storage item for marketing purposes

Your study data (questions answered, scores, progress) is stored in our database under your account — not in cookies. This data is used solely to provide your personal analytics and is never shared with advertisers or third parties.

6. Managing Cookies and Local Storage

Since we only use essential storage, disabling it may prevent MedQ from working correctly (e.g. you would be unable to stay logged in). However, you can manage cookies and local storage through your browser settings:

  • Clear local storage: Open your browser's Developer Tools (F12), go to the Application/Storage tab, and clear Local Storage for unimedq.co.uk.
  • Clear cookies: Go to your browser's settings and clear cookies for unimedq.co.uk.
  • Log out: Clicking "Log out" in MedQ automatically removes your authentication token.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we introduce any new cookies or change how we use local storage, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. If we ever add non-essential cookies (e.g. analytics), we will ask for your consent before setting them.

8. Contact

If you have questions about our use of cookies or local storage, contact us at contact@unimedq.co.uk.

For more about how we handle your personal data generally, see our Privacy Policy.
